Emily and I both LOVE sandwiches! Here is a list of what we consider to be the best sandwiches in Little Rock, North Little Rock, and Central Arkansas.
NOTE: Please check the websites of these restaurants for more opening days and times and for more information.
Best Sandwiches in Little Rock
Burge’s Hickory Smoked Turkey and Hams
Burge’s is an Arkansas tradition! The original location started in Lewisville, AR in 1962 and the Little Rock location opened in 1977. You can buy their famous smoked turkeys and hams in person or online and they are delicious.
However, our very, very favorite thing at Burge’s is what locals lovingly call “turkey crack.”
Y’all.
They make a smoked turkey salad that is deliciously addictive. You can buy the turkey salad in containers to go, but while you are there just have them make you up a turkey salad sandwich.
This sandwich is simple. It is just toasted white bread covered with turkey salad and topped with a crunchy iceberg lettuce. But…try it. This sandwich is more than the sum of its parts.
This might just be my favorite sandwich in Little Rock.
It is certainly the one I crave most often.
A lot of people also love the turkey or ham melts at Burge’s but for us it’s the turkey salad sandwich. Always and forever.
TIP: Go ahead and get a pint of the turkey salad to bring home. You’re going to want it!
Lost 40 Brewery
Yes, Lost 40 is one of the best breweries in Little Rock, but it also has some of the best food in town. It is on our list of the best cheese dip in town!.
The atmosphere is casual and noisy and friendly. This is a great place to meet with friends and enjoy a beer and some great food! They have indoor dining as well as a large covered area for outdoor dining.
But what about the sandwich?
Honestly, all of their sandwiches are good, but in our opinion Lost 40 has the best chicken sandwich in town. The fried boneless chicken breast is crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside, the bread is excellent as are the toppings and the sauce.
Just try it!
TIP: Have a flight of beer in order to try a variety of the great Lost 40 brews.
Cross Creek Sandwich Shop
Cross Creek is a great little sandwich shop in downtown Conway, Arkansas. It is a perfect stop for lunch after doing some shopping at the attached Jenifer’s Antiques.
We love to stop in at Cross Creek whenever we are in Conway.
They have daily specials and salads which are all good, but we suggest that you try the Apple Creek Club.
This is a bacon, turkey, cheddar cheese sandwich topped with apple slices and spinach – to this wonderful concoction they add a fantastic homemade honey dijon spread and serve the whole thing on toasted wheat berry bread.
It is the perfect sweet and savory combination with a crunch from the apples. Oh my!
You’ll get potato chips with your sandwich along with a side of their homemade bacon ranch dip. This might be my favorite dip…like…ever. If you are on a diet don’t even taste it because once you start you can’t stop.
Or maybe that’s just me.
TIP: They sell the bacon ranch dip to go. I’m just sayin’.
Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro
Located in downtown Little Rock, Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro is known for it’s eclectic decor, fun atmosphere, and their cheese dip!
They have, in our opinion, one of the best cheese dips in Arkansas. They also have great salads and pasta dishes along with a nice bar.
However, we are here to talk about sandwiches and the sandwiches at Dizzy’s are also amazing.
Our favorite is the Adam Carter’s Sicilian Dip. It is a bit like a French dip but better! Warm Italian roast beef with melted mozzarella and sauteed mushrooms served on french bread with creamy Alfredo dipping sauce.
Yep, it is as decadent as it sounds. This is also a huge sandwich so be prepared to take half home or go to Dizzy’s with a friend and share!
TIP: Did I mention the cheese dip?
Jimmy’s Serious Sandwiches
Jimmy’s Serious Sandwiches has been in Little Rock for over almost 40 years! You don’t last that long without having some of the best sandwiches in Little Rock.
They specialize in creative sandwiches, salads, and soups.
Jimmy’s is best known for their nationally award winning vegetarian sandwich called The Garden. It is delicious, but our favorite is the Club Mex.
It is a toasty, warm sandwich with turkey, bacon, hot cheese, lettuce, and tomato on pumpernickel bread with a slightly spicy house spread.
Jimmy’s also offers a selection of sides and some tried and true desserts. My favorite dessert is the lemon bar but Emily loves the pecan square and of course, you can never go wrong with a brownie!
TIP: Get the twice baked potato as your side item!
Olde Crow General Store
Olde Crow General Store in Benton, AR is a combination farmer’s market and sandwich shop. You can do your shopping for locally pasture raised meats, local fresh produce, and other Arkansas products and then have lunch!
It also happens to be on our list of favorite restaurants in Benton!
We have recently moved and now live much closer to this restaurant…I am going to have to hold myself back from eating there too often.
Let me tell you, the sandwiches here are special! You can feel the heart that goes into them. They are craft sandwiches with amazing meats and astounding bread. Delicious!
Oh, and huge! You will not leave hungry.
It was a hard decision but I have to say that the Rubicon is our favorite. This is a delicious sandwich with pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and their own special sauce, piled, y’all, seriously, piled onto slabs of marbled rye bread.
TIP: Be sure and check out the pies, cookies, or other sweet baked goods that they might have!
Terri Lynn’s BBQ and Deli
Terri Lynn’s has been a Little Rock favorite since 1959!
It started as a grocery store with a small deli section, but people liked the deli so much that the owners started focusing on that and Terri Lynn’s soon became a deli and BBQ place.
I remember when I was young it was always a treat to pick up some BBQ from Terri Lynn’s to bring home for dinner.
Although Terri Lynn’s still has great smoked meats and BBQ, Emily and I recommend that you try a Little Rock sandwich called The Sharon!
This is a delicious sandwich with turkey and pepper jack cheese melted onto a toasted onion bun, topped with coleslaw, then slathered with mayonnaise and horseradish mustard.
It is warm and creamy and messy and pretty much perfect! We also love the side dishes at Terri Lynn’s, the coleslaw and baked beans are great!
TIP: You can buy meats and cheese by the pound to take home for dinner.
The Root Cafe
The Root is one of our favorite places to eat in Little Rock!
We love their farm to table philosophy and knowing that we are we getting almost all locally sourced ingredients! 100% of the meat, eggs, and bread they serve as well as the majority of their cheeses and produce are all locally grown or made.
The Root is located in the trendy SOMA area of Little Rock next door to the Esse Purse Museum. It is a quirky and charming place with seating both indoors and out. There is a fun mural on a wall adjacent to the parking lot with cartoon vegetables.
Honestly, everything is good at The Root. You won’t be disappointed no matter what you order.
Our favorite sandwich at The Root is the spicy Banh Mi sandwich. This is a vegetarian sandwich made with fried tofu, pickled carrots, jalapeno, cilantro, sriracha, and their house garlic mayonnaise all on a fresh baguette hoagie.
The flavors all together are amazing!
TIP: Although we aren’t counting burgers as a “sandwich” we do think that The Root has the best burger in town!
Charlotte’s Eats and Sweets
Charlotte’s definitely has the best pies in town, but did you know that they have some great hamburgers and sandwiches as well?
They do an excellent grilled pimento cheese and even a grilled peanut butter and jelly.
But the sandwich that you have to try at Charlotte’s is the Keo Klassic. This is such a unique sandwich and so delicious.
First they make a turkey sandwich on sourdough bread with avocado, tomato, and Monterey Jack cheese. That already sounds great but Charlotte’s takes it to the next level by dipping the sandwich in a parmesan cream sauce and grilling it until the outside of the sandwich is brown and crispy.
It is honestly not like any other sandwich that I’ve ever had. So decandent!
TIP: Order your pie first!
Boulevard Bread Company
They do bread really, really well at Boulevard Bread Company. Not only is it sold and used in their own restaurants, but many other local restaurants have Boulevard bread on their menus as well.
However, bread is just the beginning of what they do here. They also offer panini’s and deli sandwiches as well as soups, salads, and desserts.
We really had a tough time deciding which of the delicious sandwiches from Boulevard Bread was our favorite.
However the sandwich that we find ourselves coming back to most often is the goat cheese and pepperonata panini. Peppers and pesto and goat cheese served warm from the panini press! I mean! You can’t go wrong.
TIP: Get a dessert too. We love their iced cookies.
Franks
The North Little Rock eatery is a bonus because, I suspect that nobody considers a hot dog to be a sandwich. However, if you are craving an amazing hot dog…Franks is the place to go!
I am a huge fan of their Chicago dog, but there are plenty of other options to try.
TIP: They also serve one of the best hamburgers in Central Arkansas!
Hope you enjoy this list of the best sandwiches in Little Rock, North Little Rock and Central Arkansas. Let us know if there are some others that we should try!
