The Ambiance
We have stopped for a meal at the Skylark Cafe many times since they opened in 2009 and it has always been a joy.
First of all, you will want to stop by the Skylark Cafe because the ambiance is so pleasant.
It is a restaurant in an older craftsman style house with a turquoise-hued exterior that is adorned with pots of vibrant flowers.
The exterior is not pristine. In fact, on occasion, the front lawn of the house needs mowing. But honestly, for me, that just adds to the charm.
I always feel like I’m stepping into a storybook.
Inside the guests are seated in a series of small rooms or on a cozy back deck. The decor is whimsical and colorful and fun. The inviting atmosphere will make you feel right at home.
Of course, we all know ambiance is not enough.
If you are going to drive out of your way to a small town like Leslie the food needs to be worth it…and at the Skylark Cafe it is!
Everything is good, but they are especially known for their sweets, so…
Let’s Start with Dessert
Just as you come in the front door you will see a glass case filled with pies and cakes. Not just any pies and cakes…AMAZING pies and cakes.
If you are visiting during strawberry season then you MUST try a slice of strawberry pie.
In our opinion this is one of the best seasonal strawberry desserts in the state. No joke. They ONLY use delicious ripe Arkansas strawberries for this pie and you can absolutely taste the difference.
But don’t worry, if you aren’t visiting during strawberry season there are always plenty of other dessert options!
The dessert menu changes day to day but you will always discover something delicious and decadent.
Be aware that when they run out of a selection they are out for the day so feel free to order dessert before your meal! With desserts this good you don’t need to worry about the rules.

What About The Rest of the Food?
Skylark Cafe is known for serving fresh, made-from-scratch dishes with high quality ingredients.
On my most recent visit I had their renowned smoked brisket tacos. SO good! The slaw and sauce are just perfect with the smoky brisket.
We also love the Cubano sandwich – I lived in south Florida for a number of years and adore a good Cuban style sandwich. The one at Skylark is the best I’ve had in Arkansas!
The salads are always fresh and beautiful.
Honestly everything is good.
There also have a changing seasonal menu as well as lunch and dinner specials. Be sure and check those out when you visit.
A Labor of Love
The story behind the Skylake Cafe is also special.
Owner Joy Ellis purchased the house in 2009 at the age of 20, transforming it into the beloved cafe that it is today. She and her husband, Denver, a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef, have created a welcoming space that reflects their passion for good food and community.
In a world that’s constantly rushing, Skylark Cafe offers a respite—a place where food is crafted with care, and every guest is treated like family.
I think every Arkansan or visitor to our lovely state should stop by the Skylark Cafe when passing through the area.
