Exciting Exhibits and Hands-On Learning at the Delta Rivers Nature Center

The Delta Rivers Nature Center teaches visitors the all about the wildlife and ecology of the Arkansas Delta in both indoor and outdoor settings.

There are plenty of things to see as well as hands on exhibits. We crossed the bridge from the parking lot into the building as soon as we walked in our daughter was entranced by all the animal exhibits in front of her.

There were places to touch animal pelts, and even see live snakes and other reptiles! All of this was so fun and we found the staff to be super friendly and helpful.

While you are in Pine Bluff at the Delta Rivers Nature Center I recommend that you also stop by the Arkansas Railroad Museum which is another free hands on museum.

The huge freshwater aquarium was a great hit! It is a 20,000 gallon aquarium that contains all kinds of native fish that would be found in the Delta including gar, catfish, and bass. All swimming right in front of us up close and personal.

On the exterior of the nature center you can also see some incredible birds of prey and an alligator!

Exploring the Trails

After checking out the exhibits, we headed outside to the trails. The nature center offers more than two miles of trails through the bottomland forest providing many chances to see wildlife – just keep your eyes and ears open.

We walked the Discovery Loop which is nice and paved with easy access. It starts in a wildflower prairie and then into a bottomland hard forest with is the type of forest very common in the Delta where the land is prone to flooding.

There are three other other short trails 2 of which are not paved.

On the various trails you may see a large variety of birds, in fact, we saw some people bird-watching with binoculars, as well as reptiles, squirrels, deer, insects and beautiful native plant life.

A Perfect Short Outing

Delta Rivers Nature Center is the perfect place for kids to burn off energy while learning about nature. Best of all? It’s completely free to visit! Whether you have an hour or a whole afternoon, it’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors alone or as a family.
