The History of Oark General Store

Established in 1890, it holds the title of the oldest continuously operating store in the state. The building has the original floors, walls, and ceiling.

The Food at Oark General Store and Cafe

Now, let’s talk about the real reason people go out of their way to visit Oark General Store – THE FOOD.

The Oark General Store is famous for its burgers. We all had a burger on our most recent visit and trust me, they live up to the hype. Cooked on a griddle these burgers are pure comfort food.

I had the Oark Cheeseburger and Emily and Daniel had the Angry Hornet which is a burger spiced up with jalapeños and Pepper Jack cheese.

Don’t even think about leaving without trying one of their homemade pies. Whether it’s a slice of warm pecan, classic apple, or their legendary chocolate pie, dessert is a must.

They also serve a country breakfast if you arrive in the morning!

If you’re making a day of it, there’s plenty to explore nearby.

The Mulberry River is just a short drive away and offers excellent opportunities for kayaking and fishing. You might even want to go all the way to Turner Bend on the Mulberry River where you can rent a kayak.

Just off the parking lot at Turner Bend you can also see Turner Bend Falls.

High Bank Twin Falls is a nearby short hike. This one is best if there has been a recent rainfall.

Not TOO far away are three more waterfall hikes. These are Pam’s Grotto as well as Haw Creek Falls and Pack Rat Falls. These are all shorter hikes which would make for a perfect for a post-meal adventure.

The Oark General Store isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a piece of Arkansas history.

It’s the kind of place where time slows down, where good food and good company take center stage. Stop in for a burger and a slice of pie and leave with a full stomach and a happy heart.
